A 53-year-old man is in custody following a firearm incident in near Kerikeri today.
About 11am police were called to a property south of Kerikeri where a man was holding a firearm. Local staff attended and the Armed Offenders Squad was also called in to assist.
Cordons were set up around the property, which is off State Highway 10, and neighbours were evacuated as a precaution.
Police then began talking to the man and about 3pm he was apprehended without incident.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
