Maungatawhiri House Fire - update

1 min read

Counties Manukau Police can confirm that the Maungatawhiri house fire that claimed one life is not considered suspicious and the matter will be referred to the coroner.

A 29 year old man died in the fire, which began at one of the three dwellings on the South Auckland dairy farm between 9pm and 10pm on Tuesday night.

The source of the fire has not yet been confirmed by the Fire Service. The house did not appear to have any smoke alarms installed.

Police say this case is a tragic reminder of the necessity of having numerous smoke alarms in the home, which should be periodically tested to ensure they are working correctly.

The name of the deceased will not be released by Police until formal identification has taken place.
