Methamphetamine seized following search warrant in Kaiapoi

2 min read

As part of an ongoing commitment to disrupt drug supply in Canterbury a search warrant targeting drugs was executed this morning at a residential address in Kaiapoi.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Quested said “approximately an ounce of methamphetamine with a street value of $28000 was seized today along with an ounce of cannabis, drug utensils and a number of prescription medicines. Canterbury Police have an ongoing focus to disrupt drug supply in the District."

"We want everyone to feel safe in their homes, neighbourhoods and communities and removing drugs such as these will help prevent the crime and social harm associated with this illegal activity.  We are in this for the long haul and will continue to target criminals who possess and sell these illegal substances" explained Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Quested.

A 38 year old man from Kaiapoi appeared in Christchurch District Court this afternoon charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and possession of drug utensils.

Canterbury Police investigations are continuing.

“Unfortunately some Canterbury communities know firsthand the harm that is caused by illegal drugs and this is of significant concern to Police.  The social harm to the user's friends and families is also often accompanied with criminal activity to fund an addiction which can affect the wider community.” explains Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Quested.

“Members of the public can help Police to stop the availability of drugs by reporting illegal activity to Police directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers.  Families and children growing up in Canterbury should be able to live in a neighbourhood that isn't plagued by crime associated with the illegal drug trade.  Canterbury Police will continue to seek out opportunities to minimise that harm and play a key role in ensuring that everyone in our District can feel safe and be safe ”says Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Quested.

If you see anything suspicious in your community contact Police straight away or call 111.
