Morrinsville Incident – UPDATE 2

1 min read

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident that occurred earlier today at a Morrinsville address.

As previously released, police were called to an address after they received reports of a male on a roof with a firearm.

Police staff and AOS members responded to the incident and a cordon was put in place.

When AOS members arrived at the house, staff were unsure if the male was still present and tear gas was deployed.

Once staff were satisfied there was no one in the house, a search was completed and police did not locate the male. There was also no evidence that a firearm was present or had been used.

Police are advising those members of the public that sounds heard following the arrival of police were those coming from the deployment of the tear gas – not from a firearm.

Staff enquiries so far have indicated that this was an isolated incident between two neighbouring properties. Because of this, and with the current information available to us, Police do not believe there is any risk to any other member of the public.

Police are still, however, looking to locate and speak with the male who was supposedly at the address to ascertain why he was at the house, if in fact he was, and what has happened.
