At 11.59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020, New Zealand moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

This means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of their household.

During this time Police will continue to provide essential policing services.

Name release: SH 2, Opotiki crash

Police can now release the name of the man killed in a crash on SH 2, south west of Opotiki, on Friday 19 July.
 
He was John William Kronast, aged 61, from Opotiki.
 
Our thoughts are with Mr Kronast's family and loved ones at this time.
 
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
