Operation Bastille - arrests made

1 min read

Counties Manukau Detectives investigating the homicide of Davender Singh have arrested a 31 year old female and a 28 year old male in relation to his death.

The arrested woman and man will appear in the Manukau District Court this morning (Saturday 9 August) jointly charged with Mr Singh’s murder.

Detective Inspector Dave Lynch says that whilst Police are pleased to have made early arrests, the investigation is still in its infancy.

“Police are still appealing for witnesses and we ask that anyone who drove down Norman Spencer Drive between 7:20pm and 7:45pm on Thursday night that might have seen Mr Singh’s car parked outside the Manaukau Events Centre please come forward to Police,” says Detective Inspector Lynch.

Police are also yet to recover the murder weapon, believed to be a knife.

“We have received a large volume of information that needs to be analysed and there is a significant amount of forensic testing to be completed which may take several days.

“We are well aware that the investigation has attracted intense interest within the Indian community and we ask that people stay patient and allow Police time to work through an investigation and fact-finding process,” says Detective Inspector Lynch.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to Mr Singh’s death.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the organisation Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The matter is now before the courts and Police will not be making any further comment.
