Person dies following crash on SH2, Maramarua

1 min read

A person has died and there are serious delays for motorists following a crash on State Highway 2 at Maramarua.

At approximately 9:15pm a car and a pedestrian collided at the intersection of SH2 and Dimmock Road.

Initial indications suggest a second car which was following the first car has swerved to avoid the incident and has crashed into trees.

Then a third vehicle, a ute, travelling from the opposite direction has also tried to avoid the crash scene and rolled.

The pedestrian has died at the scene and at least four other people in the three vehicles have received minor to moderate injuries.

Due to the crashes there are significant delays for motorists travelling on SH2.

SH2 will be closed for a number of hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.

Diversions are being arranged but they are challenging so we ask that motorists avoid the area where possible and are patient if they experience delays.
