Police acknowledge decisions by organisers of ANZAC Day commemorations in Auckland

Attribute to Superintendent Karyn Malthus, Auckland City District Commander:

Police acknowledge organisers of ANZAC Day events who have taken on board recommendations around consolidating a number of planned events across Tamaki Makaurau.

“Police had recommended to Auckland Council and local RSAs the need for consolidating a number of planned events across Tamaki Makaurau,” says Superintendent Karyn Malthus.

“Consolidating events for this year’s commemorations enables Police to ensure that resources are deployed appropriately across services.

“There is no information about a specific threat to ANZAC events at this time, however it’s important that the public be safe and feel safe at events in the current environment.”

Superintendent Malthus says Police recognise the importance of ANZAC Day commemorations for New Zealanders.

Following the announcement of events that will proceed, Police will now be working with organisers to determine the resources required at each event to ensure public safety.

“There will be a high level of visible Police presence for the public’s reassurance, as has been the case in recent weeks,” says Superintendent Malthus.
