1 min read

Hamilton Police are awaiting the results of a number of forensic examinations to determine the course of their investigations following an unexplained death at a residential address overnight.

Detective Sergeant Simon Cherry of the Hamilton CIB said Police were notified by ambulance staff of a 17-year-old woman being found dead in a Te Aroha St home shortly after 4am.

"At this stage the scene has cordoned off and a scene examination is underway.

"As part of our investigations a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the woman's body in Auckland this afternoon and the results of this will give us a clearer picture of the nature of the event we are dealing with."

Mr Cherry said as is the case in similar situations, the death will be treated as suspicious until such time as there is evidence to confirm otherwise.

Anyone who saw or heard anything untoward or suspicious in the area of Te Aroha St overnight is asked to contact Mr Cherry at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
