Recruits ready themselves for Open Day this Saturday (14/6)
Meet Police Dog Link (and friends) at the RNZPC Open Day!

Staff and recruits at The Royal New Zealand Police College are getting ready to welcome visitors to its Porirua campus on Saturday 14 June as part of the New Zealand Police National Open Day.

The free event runs from 1pm to 3pm and has been planned to appeal to all ages.

A feast of entertainment, action and information is promised with key police units taking part in displays ranging from the Specialist Search Group, Booze Bus, Crash Car, Police Dogs, Neighbourhood Policing Teams and recruit training sessions.

Highlights will include opportunities to:

• See inside a prison van and the Booze Bus. Get up close to vintage police cars on display alongside the latest in police technology.

• See the skid car in action.

• Speak with members of the Specialist Search Group and learn about how Police search for evidence, explosive devices and other dangerous items and substances. The display includes the latest in x-ray and infra-red technology, metal detectors and remote-controlled cameras.

• Meet members of the Wellington Police Dog Section and police dog ‘Link’, who is the model for the ever-popular Police dog soft toy.

• Meet local Neighbourhood Policing Teams and speak with staff from Police recruitment about what it takes to become a police officer.

• Watch a ‘live’ defensive tactics training class in the gymnasium with members of Recruit Wing 286.

The Police Museum will be open and its interactive exhibits, dress-ups and children’s activities are always popular with families.

Lunch and afternoon tea will be on sale in the onsite café and the Munro Sports Shop will be open with Police souvenirs available.

Live commentary throughout the afternoon will explain activities at the various locations and guided tours will be run. Everyone is welcome.
