Police Commissioner praises Northcote Point rescue officers

1 min read

Statement from Police Commissioner Mike Bush:

The actions of two Auckland motorway police officers who rescued a woman from a sinking car at Northcote Point today demonstrates police values at their absolute best.

The dramatic pictures we've seen this afternoon shows the two officers doing everything within their power to help the driver.

I've spoken to both men this evening and offered my sincere appreciation for their professionalism and courage.

Their actions took guts and,  with assistance from a member of the public,  they put the safety of others first to ensure that this incident was successfully resolved.

I know that police staff throughout New Zealand act with the same courage and professionalism in countless situations every day.

The dedication of staff like these and their willingness to put others first is why we come to work every day.

Note further information about the rescue should be sought from Waitemata district who are holding a media conference this evening.
