1 min read

Counties Manukau Police are investigating a violent home invasion where an elderly woman was assaulted in Manurewa.

At around 10.15pm on Friday 12th October, 2018 the 84-year-old victim answered the door to someone knocking when two males have barged their way into her home, grabbing her handbag.

She tried to grab the bag off one of the offenders however he shoved her so hard she fell backwards injuring her back and banging her head.

She received moderate injuries but is absolutely traumatised by what has happened. She was unable to get up after the incident and had to crawl through her home to get to a phone and call for help.

Later that evening, a male has used her cards to clean out her bank accounts at an ATM Machine in Clendon.

Detective Inspector Colin Higson says we are now asking for the public’s assistance to help us identify a male, who we believe can assist us with our enquiries. (Photo and CCTV video now available on the Counties Manukau Police Facebook Page)

“This was an absolutely appalling crime, and I am sure our community will be equally as shocked as we are by the absolute disregard these offenders had for this innocent elderly woman. She should feel safe in her own home, but was clearly targeted by these thugs who preyed on her vulnerability.

“Since this incident occurred police have been making significant enquiries to identify and locate these offenders. We have canvassed the area and located some CCTV footage which we hope will be key to getting our community help us identify this male who we believe will be able to assist Police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant David Honiss on 021 191 0546. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
