Police investigation into baby’s injuries

Canterbury Police were advised last night (6 January 2015) by staff at Christchurch Hospital  that a one year old baby girl had been admitted with a serious head injury. 

Detective Senior Sergeant, Scott Anderson, says “Police are investigating this incident as, at this time, the serious injuries to this young baby are unexplained.  The investigation will include a scene examination at a Worcester Street address and possibly other addresses in Christchurch.  Police are also working with medical staff and the baby’s parents and extended family.”

The baby is currently being treated in Christchurch Hospital’s ICU. 

Police have spoken to a number of people in relation to this incident who have all been forthcoming in supporting the investigation. 

“At this stage Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident and are not in a position to make any further comment while the investigation is taking place” explained  Detective Senior Sergeant Anderson.
