Billy Matara

Police are looking to locate 36-year-old Billy Matara who we believe can assist us with our investigation into a shooting in Mangere early this morning.

Mr Matara is a prospect for the East chapter of the Head Hunters gang and Police believe he is currently using a 1998 purple Holden Commodore, registration: JDY678.

A 35-year-old man remains in Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition after he was shot at a Yates Road address at around 3am.

Mr Matara is considered dangerous and may be in possession of a firearm, so he should not be approached. If anyone knows where he is, we ask that they call 111 immediately.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin McNaughton says Police are trying to build a picture of the circumstances surrounding this morning’s incident and details are still unclear.

“We need anyone with information to come forward and help us locate Mr Matara.”

If anyone has any other information that may assist the investigation team, then they are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Dave Honiss on 09 261 1300 or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
