Police investigating the shooting of a 22-year old man in the central city on Sunday morning have confirmed they have recovered the firearm used in the incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says the .22 calibre rifle was recovered from a rural location.

Three people appeared in court today on charges relating to the incident.

Police enquiries have continued today, with investigators searching a residential address in Upper Riccarton connected to a person involved in the incident.

Investigators have also spoken to a number of witnesses.

"We are grateful for the response from members of the public over the past 24 hours," says Detective Senior Sergeant Hill.

"We are confident that we now have a comprehensive picture of the incident and the events leading up to it.

"As a result we are no longer seeking information or witnesses in relation to this event."
