1 min read

Police are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred in the early hours of this morning at the Levin Mobil Service Station on Oxford Street, and need the public’s help to identify the offender.

At about 4:30am today a person, who made efforts to cover their face, entered the service station and stabbed the male attendant, with what is believed to be a knife, at least three times to his head, face, and arm.

The offender then demanded cigarettes, stole an unknown amount, and left the scene. They were wearing dark coloured clothing and had a white bandanna type cloth covering their face at the time.

The victim then called emergency services who quickly arrived on the scene.

Detective Mike Deegan of the Manawatu CIB says: “We are providing support to the victim who has been left shaken from this vicious and callous attack. It is vital that we speak with anyone that may have any information about this incident and we have released some CCTV images in the hope that the public may be able to help us identify the offender.”

The victim sustained non-life threatening laceration injuries from the attack and is currently in Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition.

Officer’s are continuing to speak with the victim in an effort to gain description details of the offender, including gender.

A scene examination has been completed this morning.

Police want to speak to anyone that was in the area around the service station between 3:30am to 4:15am and noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles.

“The navy and white coloured shoes the offender is wearing in the CCTV image are quite distinctive so we hope someone will recognise who this person is. If anyone has any information please contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Joe Pointon on (06) 210 2219. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
