1 min read

Following an operation targeting dishonesty offending in the Bay of Islands area, Police have arrested two teenagers in relation to burglary, theft and arson.

Schools in Kawakawa have recently been targeted by thieves who have taken equipment and vehicles.  Kawakawa Primary School was subjected to repeat burglaries and had two vehicles stolen and burnt out.  Bay of Islands College had a vehicle taken which was used in other crimes in Russell and Ohaeawai.

Kawakawa Sergeant Kevin Milne says these burglaries caused significant financial loss to local schools and businesses.

Following an operation to identify the offenders Kawakawa and Russell Police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman from Kawakawa.  The two people will face 14 charges of burglary, theft, arson and intentional damage.
Mr Milne says two other offenders have been identified and when they are located it is expected further charges will be laid.

“Kawakawa and Russell Police would like to thank the community for their help and continued support.”
