Police urge public to report suspicious behaviour in Lincoln

1 min read

Canterbury Police have been made aware of an alleged incident where a female jogger was sexually assaulted by a man one evening last week.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey says while Police have yet to receive a formal complaint we take reports of this nature very seriously and urge the public to be vigilant when running or jogging on their own.  “The unprovoked incident is understood to have occurred in a public area adjacent to the Lincoln University grounds.  No further details of the incident, or the offender, will be released at this time in order to protect the identity of the victim and prevent her any further distress.”

“Police urge anyone who sees anybody acting suspiciously when they are out and about to report it to Police straight away.  We are also keen to hear from any other runners/joggers in the Lincoln area who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously.”

This is a timely reminder for anyone out running or jogging on their own to be vigilant and aware of their surrounding environment.

“Canterbury Police have a dedicated team of highly trained male and female Detectives working with victims of sexual assaults.  We understand how difficult it is to report incidents of such a personal nature and commend the bravery of the victims who contact Police.  Their actions could prevent someone else becoming a victim” explained Detective Harvey.

Police inquiries into this alleged incident are continuing.
