Porirua death - man arrested

Police investigating the death of 23-year-old Hone Pawa have arrested a 23-year-old man and charged him with murder.

The man, who was not known to Mr Pawa, was arrested late afternoon on Saturday 11 May.

“Kapiti-Mana Police are committed to ensuring that people feel safe, " says Detective Senior Sergeant Christiaan Barnard.

"I would like to thank the residents of Porirua for their ongoing assistance with the investigation.  

“While an arrest has been made, there is still a range of further inquiries to be completed by the investigation team.

“I am still very interested in any sightings since Thursday night of the white 1996 Toyota Corolla sedan involved in the incident. We ask that anyone with information contact Police on (04) 381 2000, or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. ”

The man charged with Mr Pawa's death is being held in Police custody and will appear in the Porirua District Court on Monday 13 May.

As this matter is now before the Court, there will be no further comment on the circumstances of Mr Pawa’s death.
