Search for missing women continues

1 min read

The search for Mother and daughter Carolyn and Rachel Lloyd, who are believed to be in Tararua Forest Park, has resumed this morning.

A search and rescue operation was begun yesterday after their vehicle was discovered at the entrance of the Kapakapanui Track, in the Tararua Forest Park near Waikanae.

Sergeant Anthony Harmer said the track the Mother and daughter are believed to be on is a popular day loop track that is steep and can be deceptively difficult in places.

“There are a couple of places where people can make mistakes and end up off the track and we are looking at that possibility this morning.”

Two dog teams are heading down tracks leading off of the main walkway and Mr Harmer said helicopters and four wheel drives were also being deployed this morning.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen two women on the track in the past week, or anyone who may have seen their vehicle, a silver Toyota Yaris hire car, registration DLZ 347.

Rachel, aged 22 and Carolyn, aged 45, were due to check out of their Palmerston North Motel on 27th April.

They were also expected to return their rental vehicle at 11 am yesterday morning.

Carolyn is visiting from the US to see her daughter who is a student at Massey University.

Family members, the rental company and the motel have not heard from either of the women.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Carolyn or Rachel, or who may have seen their vehicle should contact Wellington Police on 04 381 2000.
