State Highway 5 remains closed following this evening’s fatal crash.
Three cars were involved.
The woman who died was driving one of the cars.
Next of kin are being notified.
The driver and passenger in the second car involved have serious injuries, and the driver of the third car involved has minor injuries.
All three have been take to Rotorua Hospital.
Diversions are in place and the road is expected to remain closed for the next few hours.
The Serious Crash Unit is on its way to the scene.
