1 min read

At 9.40pm last evening (Thursday 5 November) police were called to a Shannon address where the resident reported he had been shot.

The male has been taken to Palmerston North hospital with an injury which is not life threatening.

Police cordoned two addresses last night and a full scene examination will be conducted today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Sheridan said as the first police officers attending the scene showed great initiative stopping a vehicle leaving the area. From this vehicle stop a firearm has been recovered.

Three people are now helping the police with their investigation.

Det. S/Sgt Sheridan wanted to reassure the Shannon community Police have the people and firearm involved.

This is an opportunity to remind our Firearms Licence holders to check the security of their firearms says Carole Duffin the Central District Firearms Licensing Manager.

It is the firearms licence holder’s responsibility to secure their firearms, with ammunition and bolts in separate locations, away from inquisitive children and opportunist thefts.

Firearm security is taken extremely seriously by Police and licence holders who are found to have poorly secured or insecure firearms will have their firearms licence revoked by Police.

If anyone has any information relating to this shooting incident they can call Crime Stoppers 0800 555 111 or the Central District Command Centre on 06 3512535
