Shot man abandoned in car

1 min read

A man with a serious leg injury was found in the back seat of a silver Holden Commodore car, registration number AKD792, in Bradley Lane Glen Innes at about 9.30 this morning.

Workers at a nearby construction site heard the man, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, calling for help and went to investigate. He was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg.

Staff at a Line Rd medical centre were then alerted and they removed him from the car to give assistance while an ambulance was en route.

The victim is in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital after undergoing surgery.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton says Police believe they know who the victim is and are making inquiries to firm up on his identity.

"We don't believe this was a random incident and it's very likely the victim knows who shot him.

"We'd like to hear from anyone we haven't already located who knows anything about what happened to this man and who was responsible for it."

Those with information can call Glen Innes CIB on 09 524 1921 or 111. Anonymous callers can phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
