Snow hampers search for German tourist

1 min read

The search for a German tourist in the Travers Saddle area of Nelson Lakes National Park is being hampered by poor weather.

Search coordinator Senior Constable Dave Colville said it is snowing now and up to 8cm of snow was forecast in the area today with a wind chill factor of -10 deg.

Two ground search teams spent last night at the Travers Hut. One team is searching at present but both teams are walking out of the area today. Searchers are hopeful of getting back into the area mid week when the weather is forecast to clear again.

Senior Constable Colville said Police held grave concerns for the welfare of 19 year old Christian Ulf Erik PREHN who was last seen on Tuesday last week.

Meanwhile Police are still hoping to speak to anyone who has had contact with Mr PREHN, and in particular a German woman called Angela Bähr who is believed to have spoken with Mr PREHN at one of the huts.

Anyone with information that may assist this search should call Nelson Police, Ph 03 546 3840.
