1 min read

Armed Police have cordoned off parts of Thames' southern suburbs as they investigate reports of a man allegedly firing a firearm at a passing car this afternoon.

Waikato Police on-call manager, Acting Detective Inspector Ross McKay said a number of calls about disorder in the area were received by the Northern Communications Centre about 2.40pm.

"Among those reports are calls about a man allegedly armed with a handgun, shooting at a passing car.

"An area in the south of Thames has been cordoned off by local Police as they await the arrival of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad and the Auckland based Police Eagle helicopter."

Mr McKay advised against unnecessary travel in the area and those in the vicinity of the incident are asked to remain indoors.

Further information will be made available as it comes to hand.
