Police and emergency services are on the scene of an explosion in Clendon Park, Manurewa.
Initial reports were received that a car battery had exploded, however upon arrival it was determined that there were chemicals present at the scene.
One man has received injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatement.
A number of people who attended the scene have been taken through decontamination showers as a precaution.
Police clan lab investigators are at the scene and will conduct an investigation.
