At about 1pm today a person was struck by a train at the crossing off the end of Weymouth St, New Plymouth.
This person, yet to be identified, died as a result of the impact.
The immediate area around this location will be cordoned off until emergency services have completed a scene examination.
The person’s name will not be released until their identity has been confirmed and family members have been notified.
New Plymouth police ask that the public stay away from the area until the scene has been properly examined and reopened.
