Two men critical after Kawerau shooting

Two men have been airlifted to Waikato Hospital following a shooting in Kawerau.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.15am at a property on River Road, Kawerau. The two men aged 38 and 48 are both currently in a critical condition.

An investigation into the shooting has been launched and police want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area this morning. They are particularly interested in a dark-coloured vehicle seen leaving the area immediately after the shooting.

It is not clear at this stage how many offenders were involved. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Acting Area Commander Greg Standen said: “It is very early days and we are still in the process of collating information about the incident and the possible offenders. I can however say that the information we have to date indicates this was a targeted incident.”
