Unidentified woman may be able to assist investigation

Tametame Wiremu died in hospital on May 20

Auckland City Police investigating the unexplained death of 68 year-old Mr Tametame Wiremu [pictured] on May 20 would like to identify and locate a young woman who assisted him on May 12, the day he was admitted to Auckland Hospital.

The young woman [picture since removed due to update] kindly assisted Mr Wiremu at the Wilson carpark on Kitchener Street, Auckland City, at about 11.30 on the morning of the 12th.

Detective Sergeant Marcia Murray says Police are trying to determine how Mr Wiremu sustained some injuries that gave rise to him being hospitalised later that day.

"The woman in the photo may be able to assist us trace Mr Wiremu's movements and enlighten us as to his wellbeing at the time of their interaction.

"There is no suggestion she had anything to do with his subsequent decline in health. We simply want to identify and speak with her to see whether she can help us."

Mr Wiremu was from Manurewa and was also known as Tommy Wiremu.

Police are tracing his movements in the City area between 9am and 1pm on Tuesday May 12 and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen him in the vicinity of the Auckland Transport carpark on Victoria Street or on Lorne Street, High Street, Kitchener St and Queen Street.

He was of solid build, had a shaved head and long white beard. He was wearing grey tracksuit pants with two white stripes down the legs, a black polo shirt, a grey long sleeved jersey with a black panel down each side and grey/black slippers.

Police would like to locate a manila or plastic folder containing documents that he was carrying in a bag on the day.
