Update: Armed incident, Taupaki

Attribute to Inspector Kerry Watson:

Police have cleared an address and are making enquiries after an armed incident in Taupaki overnight.

A man reported hearing a firearm discharged at an address on Red Hill Road at about 1:20am. When Police arrived, including the Eagle helicopter, a person exited a different address and presented a firearm at the helicopter.

The Armed Offenders Squad attended and cordons were put in place.

At about 6am Police made contact with the offender, who has now been taken into custody and is assisting with enquiries.

At this stage no one has been charged.

Three other people are also assisting Police.

Cordons remain in place while Police search the house.

Police do not currently believe a firearm was discharged at the initial address.
