At 11.59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020, New Zealand moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

This means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of their household.

During this time Police will continue to provide essential policing services.

Update: Body found in Kaitaia

The enquiry into a body found in Kaitaia today is being treated as an unexplained death.

While formal identification is yet to take place, we are satisfied we know the identity of the deceased man and we are working with the family and the Coroner.

A post-mortem is to be completed tomorrow morning in Auckland.
