“A 25 year old Wellington man was killed this morning when the motorcycle he was riding north on State Highway 1, Wellington, was struck by a motorcar travelling south in the northbound lanes of SH1 near Johnsonville.
Wellington District Crime Squad are investigating the incident and have charged a 72-year-old woman with careless driving causing death.
She will be released to appear in the Wellington District Court in the New year.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Police at the Wellington Crime Squad on 04-381-2000 or contact their local Police station.
Fatigue is a factor in this tragic incident and Police urge people to travel safe over the holiday period.
Please plan your journeys to include regular rest stops and be patient in the increased traffic flow over the next few days.
