Update on fatal truck crash in Birkenhead

1 min read

To be attributed to Acting Inspector Todd Moore-Carter, Waitemata Police

Police are now able to release the name of the young woman killed in a fatal truck crash in Birkenhead yesterday.

She was Jane Lee Devonshire, aged 19 years old, of West Harbour.

Jane was an employee of the truck company and was working  on the waste removal round at the time of the crash.

Jane’s family are understandably devastated and have asked for privacy as they grieve. They have asked that media do not attempt to contact them.

The driver of the truck remains in Auckland Hospital with moderate leg injuries.

The truck is in the final stages of being removed from the scene. The truck will be towed away and will undergo a forensic examination to assist with the investigation.

The Serious Crash Unit investigation will look at a number of factors in relation to the cause of the crash, including where Jane was when the crash occurred.

Our thoughts are with Jane’s family as they come to terms with their loss.
