Update on incident in Mangawhai Heads

1 min read

To be attributed to Inspector Mark Fergus, Area Commander, Rodney Police

A 10 year-old boy who was rushed to Starship Hospital this morning remains there in a critical condition this evening.

Emergency services were called to Mangawhai Heads this morning, after the injured child was found by a family member.

Police are working to support the boy’s family. It appears that the boy has been playing a game on a private property when the accident occurred. It was initially thought that the child had been playing on a swing. It has now been established that a swing was not involved. A piece of chain which attaches to a hammock was next to the swing and the boy was playing a game with this.

We are doing everything we can to assist the boy’s family during this difficult time.
