Update on Kamo shooting incident

1 min read

Please attribute to Inspector Justin Rogers, Area Commander of Whangarei/Kaipara:

Investigations are continuing today into a shooting incident which occurred in Kamo on Wednesday evening.

Three people remain in Whangarei Hospital in a stable condition, one of whom is a 21-year-old man who was arrested yesterday in relation to this incident and is undergoing medical treatment. No charges have been filed at this stage. Our enquiries are on-going.

One person is in Auckland Hospital in a serious but stable condition, and a fifth person was released from Whangarei Hospital yesterday.

Whangarei/Kaipara Area Commander, Inspector Justin Rogers says that police will continue to maintain a strong presence in the Kamo area and at Whangarei Hospital. This will continue over the weekend.

“Our scene examination at an address in Clark Road is on-going and we continue to carry out area enquiries. We have received a number of a calls from members of the public and this is greatly appreciated.”

We are still working to establish exactly what has occurred at the address and cannot rule out the possibility that further people were involved.

“We want to reassure our community that we still have a number of investigators working on this case. We are limited in what we can say while the matter is under investigation, however we can say that we are following strong lines of enquiry. We continue to encourage our community to go about their business, but to contact us if they have any concerns,” says Inspector Rogers.

We have had offers from other police districts to send staff however at this stage it is not required and we will continue to assess this on a daily basis.

Anyone with information that can assist police with this case is asked to contact Whangarei Police Station on 09 430 4500. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously on 0800 555 111.
