Update: Raglan search

1 min read

Attribute to Sergeant Vince Ranger:

Police Search and Rescue teams have been searching near Raglan again today for the teenager swept off rocks on Saturday 17 November.

Police can now name the missing teenager as Jack Macnicol, aged 17, from Te Awamutu.

Jack was fishing with family members when he was swept off the rocks at around 1.30pm on Saturday.

An extensive search has been under way since then. On Saturday and Sunday, the Police Eagle helicopter, Coastguard Air Patrol, Raglan Coastguard and the Raglan Surf Club provided assistance to Police Search and Rescue teams.

Today’s search has been land-based, focused on the shoreline around Papanui Point.

We are extremely grateful to all those who have assisted our Search and Rescue teams – especially the volunteers, and family and friends of Jack, who have been helping in the search.

The search will be assessed on a daily basis going forward, depending on weather and tidal conditions.

This has been an extremely traumatic time for Jack’s family and loved ones, and I would respectfully request that media give the privacy and space that they need.
