The search for a 14-year-old boy missing in the water at Sumner, Christchurch is continuing this morning.

It started again at first light and includes a shoreline search by Police search and rescue staff and surf lifesaving volunteers on the water. The search is focused on the area between Sumner and Taylors Mistake.

The boy was reported missing at 3:20pm Monday 5 February and a full search by land, sea and air was commenced immediately. Activities were scaled back in the early evening after all search areas had been exhausted without success.

Police are liaising with the family of the missing boy and offering them support.
