Wanaka Police appeal for information after incident at Luggate Hotel

1 min read

A 42-year-old man appeared in Queenstown District Court today on a number of charges following an incident at the Luggate Hotel last night.

Wanaka Police were called to the hotel at around 10pm, after the man discharged a firearm outside the hotel, before taking the firearm into the hotel, then leaving shortly afterwards.

The Dunedin Armed Offenders Squad arrested the man at around 3.30am. He was taken into custody without incident and a sawn-off shotgun has been recovered by Police.

The investigation into the incident at Luggate Hotel is still ongoing and we are yet to establish the full circumstances of what has taken place.  We can confirm however that nobody was injured as a result of the man's actions.

The man has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again on 7 May.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and wish to reassure the Luggate community that there is no ongoing risk.

We would like to hear from anyone who was at the hotel on Friday night prior to or during the incident.

If you can help, please call Wanaka Police on 03 443 7272. You can also provide information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
