Police service update

At 11.59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020, New Zealand moved to COVID-19 Alert Level 4.

This means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of their household.

During this time Police will continue to provide essential policing services.

Whakaari / White Island – search continues over weekend

An extensive aerial search for further victims of the Whakaari / White Island eruption was conducted by Coastguard and Police over the weekend, between the island and the mainland.

No further items of significance were located.

Today Police will review the search area to date and make a decision on further search activity.

Police remains ready to respond if new information is received.
