1 min read

Whanganui Police are appealing for witnesses to a stabbing that occurred on the walkway between Eastown Road and the Aramoho Rail Bridge at around 6:45pm on Friday 24 July, 2015.

Detective Constable Neville Mullany of the Whanganui CIB says: "The victim, a 40-year-old Hamilton man, was confronted by three men who had seen approaching him from the Anzac Parade walkway access to the bridge."

"We believe words have been exchanged before one of the three men has stabbed the victim. During this time the three men have fled from the scene in the direction of Eastown Road."

The victim sustained a single stab wound to his torso and received moderate but non-life threatening injuries. He was treated at the Whanganui Hospital and discharged some time later.

"Police are continuing to provide support and speak with the victim to gather more details relating to a description of the offenders.

"Police encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any other information to speak up and contact us," says Detective Constable Mullany.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Mullany on (06) 213 4190. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
