Whangarei vehicle owners reminded to lock it or lose it

1 min read

Police in Whangarei want to remind the public of the old mantra ‘lock it or lose it’ following a spate of vehicle thefts in the city.

Area Prevention Manager Senior Sergeant John Fagan says in the last two weeks eight 4x4 vehicles have been stolen in Whangarei either for a purpose or to be broken down for parts.

While Police are making enquiries into the thefts and undertaking specific patrols to try and deter further incidents Senior Sergeant Fagan reminds vehicle owners there are steps they can take to prevent such crimes in the first place.

“Vehicle owners should always lock their vehicle if they are not in it and enable the alarm if it has one.   When at home if possible park your vehicle in a garage or out of sight from the street and keep the keys away in a drawer when at home in case your house is burgled,” said Senior Sergeant Fagan.

Along with taking preventative actions the public are also reminded to report any suspicious activity to Police immediately on 111.
