Hawke’s Bay high school students are being given hard-hitting lessons in road safety.
Police have joined forces with Fire and Emergency and Road Safe Hawke’s Bay to educate teenagers about the consequences of their actions on the roads.
While in the past one large expo has been held, this year mini-expos have been held at high schools across the region, with close to 1000 rangatahi taking part.
Students are given the opportunity to be breath-tested and educated on the dangers of drinking and driving. One exercise sees them attempting to walk in a straight line while wearing special googles which simulate impaired vision.
Senior Constable Andy Clinton says the interactive nature of the expo means students have been totally engaged.
“The students have all really enjoyed the expo and the activities and have asked some great questions around road safety," says Andy.
