Victims of rape or sexual assault

We understand that reporting a rape or sexual assault can be very difficult. We are committed to making sure you receive the support and information you need throughout this process.

How to report rape or sexual assault

If the rape or sexual assault has just happened then you should contact Police as soon as possible by calling 111.

However, you can still report a rape or sexual assault at any time, whether it happened weeks, months or even years ago.

There are three ways you can get in touch with us:

What to expect when you contact us in person

You can go to your nearest police station and speak to an officer. Let the person at the front counter know that you want to talk to someone in private about a sexual assault.

  • You don't need to make an appointment,
  • You may be able to speak to an officer straight away,
  • You can request to speak with a male or female officer and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes.

What to expect when you contact us by phone

When you call 105, explain that you wish to report a rape or sexual assault. The call taker will take some basic information and arrange for a suitable police officer to contact you.

The police officer will arrange an appointment for you to come in to the station or organise a time to meet in a location that suits you.

What to expect when you report online

If you choose to report the matter via the online portal, a report will be created and forwarded to the appropriate Police team. A police officer will make contact with you to arrange an appointment either at the station or at another suitable location.

Contacting us for advice
