1 min read

Canterbury Police are now able to name the victim of a fatal crash involving three vehicles on SH1 between Burnham and Dunsandel on Thursday afternoon (16 July 2015).  He was 60 year old Anthony Newton from Ashburton.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.  Canterbury Police and Victim Support are supporting the victims family and the other people involved in the crash.

Senior Sergeant Peter Stills says Anthony was headed north-bound on SH1 when his vehicle crossed the centre line at Norwood.  “His vehicle collided with a trailer being towed south-bound before colliding with another south-bound vehicle.  The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 40’s, was taken to Christchurch Hospital where he was treated for chest injuries.  The driver of the towing vehicle was assessed at the scene.”

SH1 was closed to traffic while Canterbury Serious Crash Unit completed a scene examination and the area was cleared.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while diversions were in place after the crash” said Senior Sergeant Stills.

Canterbury Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
