Police reach out to new arrivals
Police were on hand to meet some of the newest New Zealanders at the 2016 ANZ Migrant Expo this month.
Many government and non-government agencies were among exhibitors showcasing their services to help members of migrant communities settle, integrate and flourish in New Zealand.
On the Police stall were Constable Tom Li, Acting District Ethnic Liaison Coordinator for Counties Manukau, and Constable Jin Nie.
They offered crime prevention and community safety advice and information on how New Zealand Police operates – and answered questions from many people interested in a possible career in policing.
Police’s Strategic Advisor Race Relations Inspector Rakesh Naidoo - who is currently on secondment to the Human Rights Commission – gave a presentation on community safety and rights, followed by a question-and-answer session.
The session was informative and well received, says Tom.
The Expo was held at the Vodafone Events Centre, Manukau City, on 5 November.
