Gasson Street in Sydenham is closed between Carlyle Street and Moorhouse Avenue while Police respond to an incident involving a pedestrian.
Emergency services were alerted about 4.10pm, Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison says.
"The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and the road is expected to remain closed for some time."
Motorists and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
