Two people have been arrested and a firearm located following a vehicle stop in Manurewa last night.
Just after 10.30pm, Police received information relating to a vehicle believed to be involved in a firearms incident from 24 October.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Tiernan, Counties Manukau CIB, says the vehicle of interest was seen travelling on Great South Road before stopping outside an address on Wordsworth Road.
“An armed vehicle stop was conducted, and the occupants were taken into custody without issue.
“A search of the vehicle located a black revolver firearm inside.”
Detective Senior Sergeant Tiernan says Police believe the vehicle and firearm were involved in a previous firearms incident in Manurewa on Saturday.
“Police enquiries were underway following a possible road rage incident where a firearm was allegedly discharged towards another vehicle.
“Thankfully no one was injured, however we have been working hard to piece together who was involved and we’re pleased to have taken another firearm off the streets and put someone before the court.”
An 18-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a piston and unlawful possession of ammunition.
A 17-year-old has also been referred to Youth Aid Services.
