Dangerous driver feels the burn

1 min read

Beachlands Police have smoked out a dangerous driver after receiving an influx of calls about a vehicle repeatedly doing burnouts.

Early on Sunday morning, Police received more than 10 calls after a red Holden Commodore was seen speeding up and down Beachlands Road and doing burnouts.

Senior Sergeant Simon Cornish, of Counties Manukau East Police, says officers were quickly able to obtain the vehicle’s registration and footage of the incidents.

“Officers quickly caught up with the driver, and he was summonsed and his vehicle seized.

“Illegal street activity puts not only those involved at risk, but also members of the public.

“We are thankful to those members of the public that called to report this incident.”

Senior Sergeant Cornish says Police continue to ask anyone who sees illegal or dangerous driving to make reports so they can be follow up and offenders held to account.

Photos and video footage are helpful for officers to follow up on offenders that quickly speed off when driving unlawfully.

These can also be used to identify the vehicles, hotspots and times dangerous driving occurs and helps to identify the drivers.

If you see any dangerous driving, call 111 immediately.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with sustained loss of traction, and his vehicle has been impounded for 28 days.
