Why do Police have the 105 non-emergency service?
105 was introduced along with online reporting as an easy-to-remember number for reporting non-emergencies to Police to ensure everyone in New Zealand can access policing services – anywhere, anytime.
The 105 service helps to preserve the emergency (111) channel for when it is really necessary.

If you want to make a 105 online report and are worried that someone using the same computer/device will find out you have visited our website and/or submitted a report, you can hide your online activity by:
- Completing the report in a private/incognito window/tab
- When finished, delete any browsing history and if you have downloaded the report (or other information from our website) delete the download
- Alternatively, you could use a friend’s device, or one at a library, or work
Note, incognito mode or private browsing only prevents the browser from storing browser information locally. It does not make you anonymous online, for example your internet service provider can still see your online traffic data.
