I have been contacted about the New Zealand Police – Our Service, Your Say Survey. Is this legitimate? And is my privacy protected?

Yes, the survey is legitimate. Research New Zealand is conducting the survey on behalf of New Zealand Police. It is about people’s experiences of their recent contact with Police and how satisfied they are with the quality of service provided.

Your name may have been randomly selected from a sample of names of people who have recently phoned 105 or made a 105 online report to Police. Police has shared your name and contact details with Research New Zealand for the purpose of the survey. Or it may have been randomly selected from an Electoral Roll or an online panel.

Yes, your privacy is protected. Research New Zealand has a strict confidentiality agreement with Police. They only have access to the information that Police supplies (i.e. people’s names and contact details) and they only use this information for the purpose of the survey and destroy it after six months. Personal information of survey participants is not disclosed in any reporting of survey results. All people working on the survey undergo Police vetting.
